Great picture. I had never actually thought about that. I’ve been playing RPG games for years, and the UIs have always felt alike even if they are different.
I liked the picture of the code. Really puts in into perspective.
Great idea, but It would be better if there a little more in between than a straight jump to WoW….
Can you please port your “Invent games with Python” book to use Ren’Py and Python? I’m trying to make a RPG using Ren’Py, despite my having Developmental Delay Disorder. If I were to only do what I was “good” at, I’d be only watching TV because my brain can disconnect at any given second and reconnect a week later. I believe that if I can overachieve and graduate from college (where I was diagnosed), I can learn to create a RPG game. It just may take me longer. I’m using smaller games that can be connected together into one large RPG in the end, whenever that time comes. I don’t care how long it takes me as long as both my friend and I can both play the game eventually.
Ren’Py is the only system we found that works on 10.04 Mac OS X, Ubuntu and PC. Pygame wasn’t compiled for Mac 10.04 (and one component is hard to find.) And, Ren’Py works with how my brain works, for compiling for other systems. But, I could use a better tutorial! :D
Other issue is if I don’t challenge my brain, it shuts down and randomly disconnects with what I know, requiring me to literally relearn it. I had to relearn basic math twice! I now know what I need to do to prevent this. Computer Programming I found actually helped me here, even though its not supposed to be able to work here. What we found was happening is the “brighter” part of brain was randomly disconnecting the “dumber” part of brain because it wasn’t challenged. We found Kierkegaard’s works also helped me to keep brain connected, but only if I didn’t understand what I was reading. I’m beginning to understand it. Computer Programming doesn’t require me to never understand it for it to work, so it’s much better for me to use.
On your Invent With Python website your Hangman code actually doesn’t properly work (and there is no mention of it, leading to some confusion)
If you actually WIN your game of Hangman, it will not ask you if you would like to play again until you use up all of your turns. You forgot to add that if you foundAllLetters, gameIsDone = True (then enter the “if gameIsDone: if playAagain(): statement)
